It seems the City of Boston has a new marketing campaign, Visit the Pin. "As part of the campaign, twelve-foot high red pins will be placed around the city. The "pin" concept reflects the way people often use pins when picking a destination on a map. These pins have exciting interactive features- visitors can send text messages to receive more information on that location- or nearby events!"
I didn't know about this but saw the following pin in Copley Square (in Boston's Back Bay) yesterday. My friend and I immediately thought it looked like a marker from Google Maps, though the details were a little off.
The text on the sign says "Copley Square. Just one of the many interesting things to see in right here your own backyard. Text "COPLEY" to 46305 to learn more."
