My blogging client of choice, MarsEdit can no longer connect to blogspot. Despite being given lots of warning that google deprecated and then removed the old authentication API, Reminder: ClientLogin Shutdown scheduled for April 20, 2015, they didn't switch over and now have to do it in a fire drill. Hopefully it will be back up soon.

Blog Problems on iPad

Seems this blog crashes Safari on my iPad 2 (running iOS 7). It works fine on my iPhone and on my mac. If you're having problems (particularly different than what I just mentioned) please let me know.

It's probably a memory issue. I scrolled through each individual article from December on the iPad and it worked fine. I stopped some apps and restarted and while it still crashed, it seemed to get further.

Update: So as a result of looking into these issues I've switched to the new blogger templates. Looks a little nicer and things (like full rss feeds) should work the same. I still see crashes on the iPad and am not sure what to do about it.

Update: The main page now loads just the 25 most recents posts and that seems to have solved the problem for me. Let me know if it's still an issue for you.

Daily Show Clips

Apparently the embedded Daily Show clips I have posted are auto playing on some browsers (e.g., Chrome). I'm not sure why and I was using code that was supposed to set autoplay to false. Since this is ridiculously annoying and caused some readers to visit less frequently, I've changed the embeds to links on all posts that show up on the front page until I can figure out what's wrong. In the future, if you find something wrong with the blog, please let me know.

Boston Blogs

The Boston Globe reports OutsideIn.com says Boston is city where blogs flourish most "According to OutsideIn.com, a website that tracks neighborhood blogging, Boston was the 'bloggiest city' in America for the two-month period it examined, March and April."

Of course blogs reported on this yesterday. Newton, MA was 4th on the list of bloggiest neighborhoods. You're welcome. :)

Update: Apparently there are some problems with the study.

New Look

I finally moved to the new template format with the new Blogger Beta. Can't say I love the tool, maybe it just has some problems in Safari, but it was pretty painless and it was easy to pick something similar to what I had. The biggest difference seems to be the format of the Archives, which is more useful. Comments welcome.

Now if only Google were better about accepting comments or bug reports for their products in beta. E.g., while dragging and dropping template elements in Safari the UI got confused though the underlying template didn't seem to. I have no idea if it's similar in other browsers.

Blogger Beta

I've switched this blog to be blogger beta. The obvious new feature is Labels which are like Categories or Tags. I'll look into allowing feeds for specific labels so if you just want to subscribe to movie reviews :) For now I'm coping with things that are broken (BlogThis, backtab in Safari). While there's no more wait time to publish an article, it's harder to create the content. If you have a blogspot blog, I recommend not upgrading yet.
