Edward Tufte Presidential Appointment. "I will be serving on the Recovery Independent Advisory Panel. This Panel advises The Recovery Accountability and Transparency Board, whose job is to track and explain $787 billion in recovery stimulus funds".
At least the reports will have pretty graphs.

Tufte's favorite graph is Minard's "Napolean's March to Moscow". Within it, Minard potrayed the decimation of Napoleon's army in an easy to understand visual display.
The financial meltdown of 2008-2009 was as disasterous to the US economy as Napoleon's March to Moscow in 1812 was to the Republic of France.
Perhpas Tufte should use Minard's work as a template to explain the decimation of the US economy leading up to September 2008 (the actual march to Moscow in Minard's visual), followed by the subsequent bailout of the big banks starting in Sept. 2008 and still on-going (equivalent to the retreat from Moscow portion of Minard's graphic).
Unfortunately, it would also look like many 410K plans over the last several years.
