Notes from Howard's Sabbatical from Working. The name comes from a 1998 lunch conversation. Someone asked if everything man knew was on the web. I answered "no" and off the top of my head said "Fidel Castro's favorite color". About every 6-12 months I've searched for this. It doesn't show up in the first 50 Google results (this blog is finally first for that search), AskJeeves says it's: red.
Obama only did one thing wrong that mattered; he colluded in the cover-up of the largest financial crime in the history of the US, and in doing so, lied to the American people, and they know it.
I think that most Americans who bother to pay attention, even just tangentially, comprehend this in their gut, if not in their head.
Obama had the chance to fully expose the financial power elite, that has directed the slow disintegration of the American economy over the last 30 years in order to line their own pockets in the process.
He could have, and should have, used his authority as chief law enforcement officer in the United States, to fully investigate and prosecute the massive frauds involving retails mortgages, MBS, CDS, CDo, etc...
Instead, he allowed business as usual in the worst manner way possible; he was the Cop who turned and walked away from the mugging.
He lied to the American people and they know it. They know that Wall Street screwed the country over, and that Obama has done nothing about this crime.
Like I said 18 months ago, he had his opportunity to do right by the American people, the ones who believe that no one looks out for them, and he blew it by not prosecuting those responsible for the fraudulent activities that led to the great financial crisis of 2008, and the subsequent severe global recession of 2009-20??.
Here is an excerpt from a piece today by William Black, probably the most knowledgeable person in the country on the subject of Banking Fraud:
"The administration's embrace of Pratt's cover up strategy, its breathless self-praise for its own brilliance in resolving the crisis at virtually no cost, its perversion of the accounting rules and the PCA to bail out and make even wealthier the senior officers' whose frauds drove the current crisis, and both administrations' failure to prosecute the elite frauds have enraged a broad spectrum of Americans. The Chamber of Commerce and the ABA have rewarded Obama's tacit support for their dearest dreams with a vicious assault on him. This means that the administration's banking policies have attained the terrible trifecta: terrible economics, terrible ethics, and terrible politics."
Obama fooled me. I thought he actually was going to go after the power elite - the oligarchic intersection of Wall Street, big business, defense contractors and the lobbies they support.
He didn't and so the Dems will lose the mid-terms in an avalanche. Maybe that's for the best. Now, at least I know...., I gotta get back to looking out for number 1 again.
Don't I feel like a fool to have believed that he would challenge the status quo.
