Nobel Prize in Physics awarded for broken symmetry research. "The prize will be shared by three men. Makoto Kobayashi and Toshihide Maskawa will each receive a quarter of the $1.3 million prize money for their theoretical work on the origin of broken symmetry, work which predicted the strange, top, and bottom quarks. The remaining half of the prize is awarded to Yoichiro Nambu for his work in discovering the mechanism in which symmetry is spontaneously broken in subatomic physics."
