Notes from Howard's Sabbatical from Working. The name comes from a 1998 lunch conversation. Someone asked if everything man knew was on the web. I answered "no" and off the top of my head said "Fidel Castro's favorite color". About every 6-12 months I've searched for this. It doesn't show up in the first 50 Google results (this blog is finally first for that search), AskJeeves says it's: red.
Yep is right. I read two books by B. Akunin and hated them both. After I finished the first book, I thought that maybe just that one was so bad. So I read another one, which was equally awful. I have not read the Winter Queen but I doubt that I would like it any better. "Fateless" by the Hungarian writer was great. In general, I have deep distrust of European recommendations on which books to read. I love European and Latin American literature, I just don't care for snobs that proclaim that American writers are not worth reading and don't deserve the Nobel prize.
