Tea Party opening speaker suggests law that kept blacks be kept from voting be reinstated "The opening night speaker at the Tea Party convention suggested a return to a 'literacy test' to protect America from presidents like Obama -- a segregation-era method employed by southern US states to keep blacks from voting.
In his speech Thursday to attendees, former Republican congressman Tom Tancredo invoked the loaded pre-civil rights era buzzword, saying that President Barack Obama was elected because 'we do not have a civics, literacy test before people can vote in this country.'"
Yup, they're just racists.

Hmmmm.....
You know the message of voter competence is starting to resonate for me. Why stop at just literacy tests?
Perhaps in order to vote, one should be required to have, at minimum, a bachelors degree from an accredited university. You should also need to possess an IQ of at least 100, no make that 110.
I wonder how such altered voter demographics would have shaken out electorally over the last 20 years.

I'm reminded of the 2000 election. When it was all done, they figured out that if they followed the recount scheme of Gore, Bush would have won. If they followed the Bush's scheme, Gore would have won. If they recounted everyone, Gore would have one.
With only very limited exceptions, all citizens have a right to vote. Just like all persons have miranda rights. I'm outraged that of the 6 people on The Week this morning, no one said that the Miranda rights are not just for citizens but for anyone our police forces arrest.
