Notes from Howard's Sabbatical from Working. The name comes from a 1998 lunch conversation. Someone asked if everything man knew was on the web. I answered "no" and off the top of my head said "Fidel Castro's favorite color". About every 6-12 months I've searched for this. It doesn't show up in the first 50 Google results (this blog is finally first for that search), AskJeeves says it's: red.

Can you name the Elements?
Can you name Elements of the Periodic Table? is a quiz. You're given 15 minutes to type the names (not symbols) of as many elements as you can. Yeah, unfortunately spelling counts. I got 43 and am embarrassed at some that I missed. I'll try again in a few days. Hint: some are named after people and some after places.

You are a demon quiz finder.
I tried this one and got 55/118, but I am a chemical engineer! That is horrible. Product management has ruined my formerly useless scientific fact filled mind. I also can't spell most of the elements, and blanked on half of the noble gasses and rare earth elements. I guess it still was fun.
Think of how much easier it is to name the element given the table and symbols vs. trying to name them from the top of your head. Same thing goes for presidents, states, countries, etc. I guess that is why these quiz types are so popular.
