Notes from Howard's Sabbatical from Working. The name comes from a 1998 lunch conversation. Someone asked if everything man knew was on the web. I answered "no" and off the top of my head said "Fidel Castro's favorite color". About every 6-12 months I've searched for this. It doesn't show up in the first 50 Google results (this blog is finally first for that search), AskJeeves says it's: red.

Colbert was truly historical. Visit ifilm.com to see the roast.
did jon give stephen his props? I missed the show last night ... also did colbert refer to it at all?
also a good interview on 60 minutes.
Jon gave Stephen props. Said he was just flipping through the C-SPAN's and came across it. And then left it at that for Stephen to talk about.
Stephen went into it. Describing the various people that attended. Showed a clip or two, including the audience not laughing. He called it "very respectful silence".
I finally got to watch the video yesterday after reading about it on blogs and hearing on the WGBH. I liked the first part very much. The second part, including the video was ok. Overall, it was sharp and funny and bold, given the circumstances. This said, I did not get the impression that the speech was extraordinary or otherwise eartshattering nor was insulting to the President, as some claimed. It seemed to me it was what I would expect from Colbert and/or Stewart The thing I found remarkable was that he had an honesty and integrity to do the number that he would otherwise do on some other program when the President was not around.
I agree. The first half was typical Colbert, even good Colbert. The movie clip was less interesting for me.
What's amazing is that he did it and we know Bush heard it. This president seems to be sheltered and not hear criticism. Probably half the country finds Colberts comments obviously true, but the president seems not to care and the press doesn't seem to point it out either. See Madeline Albright on the Daily Show yesterday. I give Colbert a lot of credit for doing this bit in front of Bush.
