Vote on New MBTA Map

MBTA System Maps Competition 2013 "This past spring, the MBTA launched the New Perspectives MBTA Map Re-design competition. The response was overwhelming, not only because of the dozens of responses received, but the impressive quality of many of the entries. A panel of experts including the MBTA, academics, urban planners, and mapping aficionados evaluated each of the entries against a set of criteria. The six maps below were the highest rated.

Please vote on the six finalist in our System Maps Competition survey."

I liked number four.

The use of perspective to show the elevated tracks is interesting, but I’m not sure I care, which makes it just clutter. The varied text angles also makes it a little chaotic. I think I like #6, mostly stylistically, but it is the only one the bus routes are clear on (I’m assuming someone must care about the busses, otherwise why would they run them?) The third one on the non-finalists list (travel time graph) was also interesting. I want some sense of geographic orientation in my map, but having a travel time chart as a supplemental graphic would be nice. Perhaps even just on the platforms to show travel time to each of the stops?
