Change Congress vs Mike Ross

""Blue Dog" Rep. Mike Ross (D-Arkansas) is feeling the heat for siding with his special-interest contributors over his constituents who want a public health insurance option." Change Congress has produced this ad calling him out on this and is trying to raise $15,000 so they can broadcast it 200 times in Arkansas so his constituents can know he's not representing them. You can donate here.

I hate to admit it, but democracy seems to be dying in the United States.....and the citizenry doesn't seem to care. I guess that Mcdonalds, NASCAR and the NFL provide enough of a distraction (think bread and circuses) that people won't notice that their elected officials really don't represent them anymore.

The concept of republican democracy; rule by leaders chosen by the people (voters), has been replaced by the concept of leptocracy, rule by leaders chosen by the corporations, who give money to the leaders (the Greek word for money is lepta, funny how close it sounds to Kleptocracy!).

I fear that both parties, Republican and Democratic, are controlled, for the most part, by the largest and most financially powerful corporations in the world. It's been over a year since the meltdown on Wall Street....why hasn't there been a single meaningful regulatory reform? Please someone tell me.

And the so-called health care debate, the town hall meetings, the Baucus committee, all the other nonsense that has been going on is, I think, just for show.

We shall see if a true public option passes and healthcare for all becomes a reality. This will happen only as long as the corporate profits to be made in the healthcare industry are not unduly diminished, and taxes on the wealthy are not increased to pay for it.

Why hasn't Obama just repealed the Bush tax cuts yet. Yes, I know it would harm the economy. The rich might buy one less BMW or Mercedes, what a blow to the US economy.

I am now convinced that until we get a true viable third party in this country, and remove the ability of money to unduly influence elections and therefore, buy candidates, this will become more and more a government of the corporations, by the corporations and for the corporations.

Perhaps this is a start, but I don't think the answer lies within either the Republican party or the Democratic Party going forward.

More and more, I will start to vote for third party candidates. It the last thing the electorate can do (short of directly buying the politicians back - which might not be such a bad idea....hmmmm).
