Slowly Convincing Ourselves Bush Lied

60 Minutes had an interview with a former CIA Official who said the everyone knew in the fall of 2002 that Iraq had no WMD. He was annoyed that the administration was blaming it all on an intelligence failure and says that the intelligence community had a correct consensus but the administration was cherry picking and it was really a policy failure.

The second part of the SIC investigation into pre-war Iraq intelligence is late. The committee chairman Pat Roberts (R-KN) is letting delays mount up and it's amazing how those involved in Iran-Contra are again popping up. So do we really need to wait for Democrats to win the majority in Congress before anyone does something about the president lying and getting us into a war?

Yes, we do have to wait for the Republicans to lose control of the House and/or Senate before we see anything get done. The Republicans have been playing partisan games with the Presidency since Clinton was elected. Even though they were in the minority at the time, they kept taking swipes at Clinton (sex scandal after sex scandal, Whitewater, etc.) until something finally knocked him down.

Now, even though Bush's lies are far more obvious, flagrant, and consequential than any of Clinton's, the Republican majority is squashing any action, and likely even any complaints. The best the Dems could do is stunts like Motions for Censure.

It is said that the main reason Nixon was taken down was that he pissed off his own party. Bush's party doesn't seem that pissed off, so we'll have to wait until they're gone to see anything get done.
