Notes from Howard's Sabbatical from Working. The name comes from a 1998 lunch conversation. Someone asked if everything man knew was on the web. I answered "no" and off the top of my head said "Fidel Castro's favorite color". About every 6-12 months I've searched for this. It doesn't show up in the first 50 Google results (this blog is finally first for that search), AskJeeves says it's: red.

A New Translation of The One Russian Science Fiction Novel You Absolutely Must Read
I recently re-read it and loved it. It was the original vs the censored version that I've read way back in Russia. I hope that this new translation is from the original Picnic. I love almost all that they've written. Naturally, I read all their books in Russian. If you've never read it, do it. It's not long at all. And then see the Stalker by Tarkovsky which is very loosely based on the Picnic.
