A volcano of oil erupting

A volcano of oil erupting, an article by Paul Noel is by far the most detailed and depressing thing I've read about the oil spill.

Update: Not so much, see the comments.

Um, Howard, he's a *software engineer*. OK?

No one would argue that the situation is anything but an ongoing disaster, but it might be better for us listen to real experts.

By experts, I don't mean hacks for the industry.

I've seen most of Mr. Noel's statements emphatically debunked by people with much more relevant experience who are, it should be noted, clearly not friends of the industry.

I hadn't read the comments. The info about fractioning is was interested me. I didn't know at all about the affects of pressure on oil and how only 20% of the spill would be visible from the surface. I wonder if that's true.

I didn't pay too much attention to the numbers he spouted. I did note his description that the pipe was 5' diameter but now I understand it to be 21" and the rest of this math is odd.

I'd love a good pointer to better articles.

Oh and thanks for the fact-checking. Always appreciated.
