Apple and EMI announced that all EMI music is available DRM-free on the iTunes Store. It seems you can still buy the 128kbps AAC files with DRM for $0.99. Or now you can buy 256kbps AAC files without DRM for $1.29. A 30 cent premium for twice the quality (you might not notice but it's nice) and the ability to play the music on any player you want, not just one from Apple (without having to burn and rip a CD). EMI music videos will be unchanged in quality and price but will now have no DRM.
So speculation begins. Was this just an excuse for a price bump on iTunes? Will other record companies follow suit? Now that songs have different prices, will others? Will there be other reasons to charge a different price for songs?

I read on Yahoo news this morning that full albums, whether DRMed or not, would remain the same price. This seemed odd AND I can no longer find the article, leading me to believe it was a mistake.
