Dean Kamen Has a Private Island

Gizmodo was all excited about how Dean Kamen's Private Island Is Now Entirely Off the Grid. If you don't recognize his name, Kamen invented the Segway among other things.

I was more impressed that he has his own replica of Stonehenge!

The Dad said...

"North Dumpling Island is a two acre (8,000 m²) island in Fisher's Island Sound off the coast of the U.S. state of Connecticut (although the island itself is actually in New York State). The island is owned by Segway Human Transporter inventor Dean Kamen. Kamen was denied permission to build a wind turbine on the island, so he allegedly declared that he was seceding from the United States, and he signed a non-aggression pact with his friend then-President George H. W. Bush."

He IS going all Blofeld. And all this from selling a dozen Segways...

Actually I have to say the lighting is pretty fascinating. Not so much the colored lighting on Stonehenge, but the implementation of the LED lights inside the house. Very nicely done.

How would you like to be the home builder on THAT project? Bringing all supplies and workers in via boat. Imagine what the quick run to the local hardware store is like when you discover you're out of finishing nails.
