Peter King’s Stupid Hearings

I find the Peter King hearings today pretty deplorable. I don't have much to say but these links.

King supported the IRA so Mathew Yglesias calls him a Terrorist Sympathizer.

That led to Peter King’s Hypocrisy Is Fine By Eric Cantor Since “It’s Pretty Obvious” Muslims Are The Problem.

Think Progress wrote Peter King Incorrectly Claims There Were No Neo-Nazi Terror Plots In The Past Two Years. "At the start of today’s Islamophobic hearings, Rep. Peter King (R-NY) attempted to justify singling out the Muslim American community while disregarding terrorism that is emanating from other communities. In his opening statement, he claimed that over the past two years, there have not been any terrorist plots by neo-Nazi groups...ThinkProgress previously reported, there have actually been twice as many terror plots by non-muslim terrorists like white supremacists and anti-government extremists since 9/11."

Remember that bomb found in Spokane Washington near a Martin Luther King Day parade? Yesterday the FBI arrested a suspect, Kevin William Harpham. "An ex-soldier with ties to the white supremacist movement has been taken into custody in connection with the planting of a backpack bomb along the planned route of the Martin Luther King Jr. march in downtown Spokane, authorities have confirmed."

And of course the hearings will just help recruit more terrorists. "'King risks helping to promote precisely the narrative Osama bin Laden and his sympathizers try to promote, namely dividing the world between Muslims and non-Muslims,' said Jennifer Bryson, a former counterterrorism official at the Defense Department. Al-Qaeda has used the same tactic as a recruiting tool, she said."

King is the representative of New York's 3rd congressional district which is where I grew up. I was never particularly interested in politics there and I'm glad he's not my representative now.
