Military Officials Disagree on Impact of Surge

NPR has a story Military Officials Disagree on Impact of Surge. Apparently an argument can be made that having more troops in Iraq is not what lowered the violence and that one possible cause is that we're now paying the insurgents to form protection forces (and not kill us). "Some 70,000 former insurgents are now being paid $10 a day by the U.S. military. It costs about a quarter billion dollars a year." It's a really worthwhile article to read.
